Clemmons is a village in Forsyth County, North Carolina, just outside Winston-Salem, and it’s home to one of Talbert’s newest branch locations. Despite its size, Clemmons offers residents and visitors quite a few things to see and do. Here are a few ways you can explore the Village of Clemmons and what you need to know before visiting.

Small But Mighty: Clemmons, NC

Clemmons was first settled in 1802 by Peter Clemmons and was known originally as Clemmonsville. The village was a thoroughfare for stagecoaches, later becoming “a hub for agriculture and industry” in North Carolina. Edwin Clemmons, the grandson of Peter Clemmons, owned several stagecoach lines, which helped bring more traffic and commerce into the region.

In 1898, the Idol’s Dam and Power Plant was opened on the Yadkin River, not far from Clemmons. The project saw several investors and was partially funded by Thomas Edison. The dam provided a source of power and was the first commercial hydroelectric station in North Carolina. This helped establish Clemmons as an important part of the manufacturing and agricultural industries in the region.

Things to Do in Clemmons, NC

Clemmons has certainly grown since the 1800s, but it has maintained its close-knit community feel. The village has also become a destination for travelers who want to experience much of what North Carolina has to offer. From theatres to wineries to outstanding barbecue, there’s plenty to see and do in Clemmons.

We talked to a few of Talbert’s team members who live and work in Clemmons, and they suggested some of their favorite spots.

Date Nights

Clemmons features a few impressive eateries for families and visitors to the area, including 2520 Tavern. “It’s great for a date night,” says Adam North, Cabinet Manager at Talbert.

When it comes to food, most people know North Carolina for its barbecue. Clemmons is home to one of Little Richard’s BBQ locations, where pork shoulders are smoked for hours and prepared with authentic regional recipes. “Little Richard’s has some of the best barbecue around!” says Elizabeth Turner, Cabinet Specialist at Talbert.

Entertainment

Don’t let the size of Clemmons fool you; there’s plenty of entertainment and fun to be had in the area.

“There are many local wineries in the Yadkin Valley region,” says Elizabeth. The Childress Vineyards, for instance, feature tastings and tours of the facility for visitors, complete with a bistro and award-winning views of the North Carolina scenery.
